Pride and Spirit

Ms Rangilla Medhi hails from Devanand Panchayat, Sipajhar, Darrang District. She could not go to school because she had to look after her younger sisters and brothers. But she has become literate through the literary campain conducted by Gyan Vigyan Samity Assam. Now she can express her thoughts in poetry. She is grateful to voluntrees Ms. Runu Medhi and Ms. Mahila Deka, who had helped her to learn her letters. Her eighty-years old mother still sheds tears for not educating Rangila in time. Rangila's father Chalisa Medhi is no longer alive to witness this new Rangila. She is now the pride of her four brothers and sisters.

On the 8th of March 1999 she presided over a public meeting in Devanand Panchayat. It is in fact a memorable day both for Rongila Medhi and literacy activists similarly.

This is probably the first published book written by a neoliterate writer in India.
