MATERIAL PUBLICATION
MATERIAL PUBLICATION

Production and dissemination of materials is a main objective of SRC Assam. SRC Assam prepares and publishes books for neo readers on various aspects of life. It organizes workshops on Neoliterate Material Production for the neoliterate learners. It tries to involve writers from different disciplines, areas, subjects and field to prepare manuscripts on various issues. During the workshop the manuscripts are taken for field testing. Then only the write-ups are selected for printing. The production cell of the SRC then discusses with the artists for illustration of the books. There is a Publication sub – committee of SRC Assam. Before printing of a book approval is taken from this sub-committee.

The centre also selects grades and publishes stories of eminent writers by simplifying them. SRC Assam is conscious of the guidelines given by the National Literacy Mission for the promotion of secular democratic and scientific values among readers. The concept of the reader is kept in mind while doing this. The following booklets have been brought out during the year.

SRC Assam has been developing prototype materials for neoliterates on various subjects. However, during the course of literacy campaign it was observed that many illiterate people were not coming forward to take part in the routine literacy campaign. They insist that it should be conducted in their mother tongue. This may have been one of the reasons for the reluctance shown by indigenous language groups. So, apart from production of prototype materials in Assamese, SRC Assam has taken up material production in Bodo, Bengali, Rabha, Deori, Sadri and Karbi.
